How to read the NFL playoff bracket
The AFC side runs left to right and the NFC side runs right to left, meeting in the middle at the Super Bowl. The number next to each team is its seed. On Wild Card Weekend the No. 2 seed hosts the No. 7, the No. 3 hosts the No. 6 and the No. 4 hosts the No. 5, while the No. 1 seed rests. Winners move one column toward the center.
The Divisional Round is not a fixed bracket. The NFL reseeds, so the No. 1 seed always plays the lowest remaining seed, and the other two Wild Card winners play each other. That is why the second-round slots read “lowest seed left” and “Wild Card winner” until the first round is over.
When is the NFL playoff bracket set?
The full bracket is known on the evening of Sunday, January 10, 2027, when the last Week 18 game ends. The NFL then announces the Wild Card kickoff times and TV networks, usually within an hour. Divisional Round matchups are known after the Monday night Wild Card game on January 18, and the Conference Championship pairings after the last Divisional game on January 24.

NFL playoff bracket 2027 in short
Fourteen teams, 13 games, four weekends. The bracket on this page updates automatically after every game, from the moment the field is set until the final whistle at SoFi Stadium.
Is the NFL playoff bracket fixed like the NCAA tournament?
No. The NFL reseeds after Wild Card Weekend so the top seed always faces the lowest surviving seed. In a fixed bracket the No. 1 seed would play a set opponent regardless of upsets elsewhere.
Can two teams from the same division meet in the playoffs?
Yes, in any round. Division rivals often meet in the Wild Card Round when a division winner hosts a wild card team from its own division, and they can meet again in later rounds.
Why does the bracket show seeds before the season is over?
Before Week 18 ends, the bracket shows where each conference’s playoff picture stands today. It is a snapshot from current standings, not a prediction. Once the field is set, it switches to the official matchups.
Can I print the NFL playoff bracket?
Yes. Use your browser’s print function on this page. The bracket is laid out for a single landscape sheet, and empty slots can be filled in by hand as results come in.
How often does the bracket on this page update?
Scores refresh every few minutes while a game is live and within minutes of the final whistle. Kickoff times and networks appear as soon as the NFL announces them.
